Installation

The post goes up in five minutes.

Steel anchor, 1.8 m uPVC post, hollow rail, retaining key, clips. Everything in the box. No fasteners to lose.

Step by step

Four steps, five minutes, on site.

5 minutes on site
  1. 012 MIN

    Drive the steel anchor

Lump-hammer the 30-inch steel anchor in until only the top collar shows. Spirit-level in two directions before each strike. Soft ground takes 30 seconds, hard ground a couple of minutes.

  2. 021 MIN

Slot the post over the anchor

Drop the assembled 1.8 m uPVC post over the anchor collar. The fit is friction — no bolt needed. Tap the post-cap on once the post sits flush.

  3. 031.5 MIN

    Hang the sign board

Clip the steel sign clips to the top edge of your printed board. Hook the rider clips over the rail. The board swings naturally in wind — that's by design, it reduces drag and keeps the post upright in gales.

  4. 040.5 MIN

    Step back, confirm it's level

Spirit-level the post one final time. Step back and confirm the board sits straight. Walk away.

Troubleshooting

The questions that come up on site.

Six things buyers ask after the box arrives. If you've got one we haven't covered, email us — we'll add it.

  • What if the ground is too hard to drive the anchor in?

Stony, frozen or tarmac-edge sites are the most common reason. Use a post-hole digger or a crowbar to open a 30 cm starter hole, then drive the steel anchor home. For tarmac or paving you'll want the auger-style ground screw (sold separately) — drive it flush, drop the post over. For permanent installations on hard ground, dig a 40 cm hole and concrete the anchor in — every builder's merchant in Ireland stocks rapid-set concrete in 5 kg bags.

  • What tools do I actually need?

A lump hammer (or post-driver) to drive the steel anchor, and a spirit level to keep it plumb. That's it. A spade helps on hard or stony ground. The rail-to-post fit uses a retaining key — tap it home with the hammer handle, no spanner needed.

  • How long will the post last in Irish weather?

The post is uPVC — built for Irish weather. Weather-resistant white finish, UV-stable, won't rust, won't rot. The steel anchor is galvanised for in-ground use. The only part that tends to age is the printed sign board, and that's yours, not ours.

  • Can I reuse the post when the property sells?

Yes — and most of our buyers do. The clips are designed to swap boards (For Sale → Sold → Sale Agreed) without uninstalling the post. Lift the rider clips off the rail, swap the board, hook them back on. Two minutes. Even the whole post comes off the anchor in under a minute when you're ready to move it to the next listing.

  • What if the post arrives damaged?

Take a photo of the damage where it sits on the courier's pallet (before you sign for it if possible), email us at info@signandpost.ie within 48 hours of delivery, and we'll send out a replacement from stock. Full detail in our Refund policy.

  • I'm not confident installing it myself — can you help?

The on-site install is genuinely a 5-minute job and the video on this page walks through the steps. The one-time out-of-box assembly (rail through the post, retaining key, end caps) takes about 15 minutes the first time you build one — after that, every install on site is 5 minutes. If you're still stuck, email us with a photo of where you're at and we'll talk you through it. For multi-post developments where you'd rather have someone else do it, email us and we'll see what we can put together.
